To Educators and Parents | Pedagogical Aspects

Children’s Music Education

Music should be always present in a child’s daily life.  When well-used, it contributes to the child’s development, broadening his or her perception, expression and reflection skills.  There is a magical affinity between children and the musical language, which should be explored and linked to the educational context.

Since pre-school, the poetry in the lyrics and awareness to sound parameters, i.e., rhythm, intensity, duration, tone quality (timbre) and sound ideas are stimuli to learning.  In an enriching way, this favors auditory memory, vocal work, language, vocabulary, text interpretation and body expression.  The areas to be developed may be in harmony with music.

Primary education in Brazil follows the classical repertoire of teaching our children folklore and traditional culture.  The Espantaxim Project contributes with a different proposal: new works and an updated musical approach.  It presents different rhythms, with a ballad genre which joins “poetry” (language) and “music”, and which can express feelings and well-defined situations: commemorative dates, time for bed, playing, learning, dancing, celebrating etc.

Pedagogical Aspects

In the introductory pages of the book Espantaxim and the Magic Little Castle – 14 Songs by Dulce Auriemo, there is a special chapter dedicated to educators, parents and grand-parents.  This was the first book published and, in this chapter, you will find the essence of the work, with information on the repertoire and pedagogical aspects which may be used in schools.
